Full-Day Paddle Camp

Description

Countless children in the North Bay area have been introduced to paddling by participating in NBCC’s Canoe Kids/Paddle Camp program. The Paddle Camp is a weekly, full-day program for children aged 7 to 13 with supervised lunches, allowing parents the convenience of dropping off and picking up their children before and after work.

This program is designed to introduce the paddlers to basic canoeing and kayaking technique, including various strokes, steering skills and most importantly, how to have fun and stay safe on the water.  Participants will progress from recreational canoes and kayaks to sprint racing boats, dragon boats and to the War Canoe.  Enthusiastic paddlers will be encouraged to move on to the sprint racing program. Paddle Camp fees will be credited toward the Sprint Racing program fee should a child decide to move on to racing.

This is a graduated skills program including three levels of paddling skills that must be completed before the paddler can progress to the sprint racing program.  This ensures that all athletes have the proper skills to really enjoy sprint racing.  Four weeks are normally necessary to complete the Canoe Kid program (1 week for the bronze “blades”, 1 week for the silver “blades” and 2 weeks for the gold “blades”), but athletes could require extra time, especially for younger ages.

The Paddle Camp generates big smiles on the faces of the children and coaches involved!
