Youth Dragon Boat Challenge

By Louis-P. Samson, June 8, 2010 6:23 am

This Saturday June 12th at Olmsted Beach on Trout Lake will take place the fourth annual Youth Dragon Boat Challenge, a fun dragon boat festival for youth of North Bay. This year two groups are in the festival, one from Mother St-Bride intermediate school and another one from St-Hubert intermediate school. It means that up to 100 participants will contest to win the 2010 winner burgee.

Each crew will be racing a minimum of two times, with a possibility of making the finals for a third, fourth and fifth race. The festivities will begin at 10am so we ask that all participants arrive at the Canoe Club at approximately 9:50 a.m. The challenge will be run rain or shine (unless there is thunder and lightning), so please come prepared for the elements.

We will be running the Championship race just after the qualifying races, followed by the medals and championship banner presentations. The day’s event should close at approximately 12:30pm. We will be hosting a BBQ after the award ceremony with hot dogs available for $0.50 and beverages available for $1.00 each. Click here for the day schedule.

Finally, everyone is welcome to join us on the beach to celebrate the young paddlers’ incredible canoeing experience and to visit the Canoe Club’s facilities. An exhibition of our fleet will be on display and the North Bay Canoe Club coaches will be available to answer any of your questions about our programs.  Hope to see you down at the beach with us !
